AWL Students: If you have already written this piece and uploaded it, please revisit and revise it. Writing is never truly finished. If you haven't written it yet (which I suppose is the case for the vast majority of you), you have the following 50 minutes to draft it and begin the revising/editing process. Enter your text in the Discussion board thread no later than 11:45 today. Click on "Discussions" on our Populi page, and enter your text (or copy-n-paste it from a doc). We will have an informal critique/reading of your texts from 11:45 to 12:15. Questions: Csmith@dcad.edu.
Remember to upload it to the FYE Populi page no later than 7 pm tonight. Here is the assignment itself:
First, spend some time at the official website of the Guerilla Girls learning about the full range of their practice. Focus not only on what they do, but how & why they do it.

Then, watch the video (below) showing the Guerilla Girls in action.
(Note that the video mentions three key strategies at the heart of their practice: a. the use of statistics' b. the use of outrageous statements, and c. the use of humor.)
3. WRITE: Concerning what you have seen, read, and heard about artists who create work with social/political motives (ie.the Guerilla Girls and LigoranoReese) write a Reflective Response essay on the strategic use of art to bring about social or political change. Do you like the idea? Why or why not? Would you want to try it? Why or why not? If yes, what issues or topics would you tackle?
